STONE TOOL WORKSHOP On this rocky outcrop there is abundant evidence that our early ancestors used and made stone tools - from the Early Stone Age, the time of Homo habilis about 2.3 million years ago through to the Middle and Later Stone Ages and ancestors of the Khoe and San, thousands of years ago. The large and simple Early Stone Age hand exes evolved into the smaller and more specialised Middle Stone Age varieties of stone tools, which eventually evolved into micro stone tools during the Later Stone Age, from around 30 000 years ago.
