ESTERHUYSEN MONUMENT This is SandtonÕs first monument, dedicated to the Esterhuysen Family, who played a pioneering role in the area. Near the monument are the graves of Voortrekkers Jan Christoffel Esterhuysen and his wife Maria Magdalena, who arrived at their farm Zandfontein in 1836, and other family members are also buried here. Zandfontein was one of five farms which later went to make up the municipal area of Sandton, and it was on a portion of this farm that the skyscrapers of Sandton later arose.
