LINDIWE MYEZA (1935-2020) Trained as a teacher, LindiweÕs first major role came as administrator of the Baragwanath Nursing College. Supporting the Student uprising in 1976 she courageously organised medical assistance and offered safe housing in her own home. Although a woman in a fiercely patriarchal society, Lindiwe brokered peace in various hostel disputes. In 1977 she headed the Wilgerspruit Fellowship Centre and instituted a literacy group for women. Lindiwe Myeza was awarded the Order of the Baobab in silver in 2019 for her commitment to the upliftment of all people which has led to a marked improvement in the lives of many of the oppressed and disadvantaged.

A culmination of research gathered over many years, the Online Johannesburg Heritage Register is being launched on Nelson Mandela Day 18 July 2025.

Among the many heritage sites featured is Chancellor House, the downtown offices of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys in the 1950s. After having been vacant and shuttered for more than a decade, this iconic building is being revived and brought to life once again as offices for the Community Development Department, which oversees the City’s Arts, Culture & Heritage Services.
