DAVID POOE 1919-2004 Having grown up in Sophiatown, David Pooe attended St Peters School in Rosettenville then joined his brother in the family business. He proved highly successful, increasing the number of shopping outlets and in 1964 was a founder of the National African Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC), promoting and protecting black businesses. Concern for his community led his to forming the first Boy Scout troop in Soweto with its own brass band which he also funded. He formed the first troops of drum majorettes, supporting and guiding them. David PooeÕs generosity was legendary.
