A Brief History

Description

The sculpture is concave with 3 abstract human figures protruding upwards from the face. The west facing 6m high by 3m wide sculpture is made of steel on a concrete base. Artist's Statement: The word is a large creation of God whose beauty has inspired many generations to write about what it contains - the milky way at night, sunrise and sunset, landscapes, oceans, waterfalls, rivers, jungles, deserts, mountains, animals and humans. All of these were made out of love. This piece of artwork is nothing else but love, an expressive emotion, which we wish to share with others.

A culmination of research gathered over many years, the Online Johannesburg Heritage Register is being launched on Nelson Mandela Day 18 July 2025.

Among the many heritage sites featured is Chancellor House, the downtown offices of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys in the 1950s. After having been vacant and shuttered for more than a decade, this iconic building is being revived and brought to life once again as offices for the Community Development Department, which oversees the City’s Arts, Culture & Heritage Services.
