Gleneagles

The final section of Gleneagles was completed in 1937, overseen by architects JC Cook and Cowen who were responsible for a number of residential building commissions during the inter-war period. Gleneagles is a notable example of their work; characterized by generous proportions and spacious apartments reflecting the architectÕs striking use of utilitarian design and Art Deco detail. This scale and quality resulted from the economic recovery from the depression of the early 1930s and the resultant boom in JohannesburgÕs fortunes. The Art Deco features of the entrance hall are amongst the finest in Johannesburg.
