EBENEZER CHURCH Noordgesig The original congregation first turned the sod in in 1940 and the church opened on 24th September 1942. For many years it served as both church and school. The demand for education was so great that two sessions, morning and afternoon, were accommodated here daily. Enrolment reached 600 before a government school was built. The Ebeneezer Church is sturdily independent Congregational church with no clerical hierarchy. The original brick structure with buttresses has been retained intact.

A culmination of research gathered over many years, the Online Johannesburg Heritage Register is being launched on Nelson Mandela Day 18 July 2025.

Among the many heritage sites featured is Chancellor House, the downtown offices of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys in the 1950s. After having been vacant and shuttered for more than a decade, this iconic building is being revived and brought to life once again as offices for the Community Development Department, which oversees the City’s Arts, Culture & Heritage Services.
