to June 11, 2022

Time

Master the
Art of Ceramics

A 6-day intensive training programme on ceramics led by a leading ceramic expert. The training programme will deal with product development from conceptualisation to completion of an international-standard market-ready product.

This programme aims to introduce, strengthen and develop the next generation in ceramics through a 6-day programme that will not only focus on broad background production and theory, but will allow for individuals to explore and develop new skills focused on production, glazing, decorative techniques and much more.

Day 1 — Theoretical Training

During day one you will learn about the history of pottery making. You will delve into the analysis of clay and glaze, firing patterns, glazing techniques and ways of manufacturing. You begin by slip casting traditional beer-pots from pre-made moulds.

Day 2 — Decorating & Refinement

On the second day you will be finishing and decorating your beer-pots. They will be put into the kiln for bisk firing on Wednesday. After bisking, the pots will be glazed on the inside and fired again by Friday so that the kiln will have cooled down by the end of Saturday.

Day 3, 4, 5 — Production Techniques

As the week progresses, you will walk through the various processes: wedging clay, centring for throwing, coiling and expression through decoration. You will be able to produce your own design for slip casting.

Day 6 — Conclusion

On the last day of the workshop you will review your learnings and will be able to take home the beer-pot you made on the first day, as well as the mould of the piece that you designed for slip casting .
