Abiel Lebello In the weeks that followed the June 16 Uprising, protests spread to more schools and locations. On 4 August, the Soweto Students Representative Council (SSRC), organised a workers' stay-away, while students attempted to march from Soweto to John Vorster Police Station. Near the Soweto highway, police opened fire on marching students, and Abiel Lebelo was killed. A prefect at Madibane High School, Abiel Lebello was an Executive Committee member of the SSRC, launched only two days before his death, on 2 August 1976.

Among the many heritage sites featured is Chancellor House, the downtown offices of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys in the 1950s. After having been vacant and shuttered for more than a decade, this iconic building is being revived and brought to life once again as offices for the Community Development Department, which oversees the City’s Arts, Culture & Heritage Services.
