Recognising Citizens Who Made A Difference

The Roodepoort Museum compiled this booklet in conjunction the Greater Dobsonville Heritage Foundation and the Dobsonville Community. The purpose of the publication is threefold. Firstly, to give recognition to individuals that made a positive difference in the Dobsonville community and secondly to inspire a new generation to do the same, or even better! Thirdly, the information captured in the publication is contributing to the recording and resource building of the history of Greater Dobsonville. This booklet forms part of the Museum’s Senior Citizen Awareness Programme, but make no mistake you do not have to be old to make a difference in your community. The individuals mentioned in this booklet is proof that irrespective of your age, social or economic status you can make a difference in your community and positively contribute to development of your community. The event is unfortunately not open to the public. Invitees only. However copies of the booklet will be available from the Roodepoort Museum from 24 May 2023 as long as stock lasts.

Explore Joburg

A culmination of research gathered over many years, the Online Johannesburg Heritage Register is being launched on Nelson Mandela Day 18 July 2025.

Among the many heritage sites featured is Chancellor House, the downtown offices of Mandela and Tambo Attorneys in the 1950s. After having been vacant and shuttered for more than a decade, this iconic building is being revived and brought to life once again as offices for the Community Development Department, which oversees the City’s Arts, Culture & Heritage Services.
